Perhaps Ms. Pemberton found it more pleasant to enjoy our fine weather this weekend than to hash-over a story which, as Harold Forsythe notes (that's my hand for the counting, by the way) , has little direct connection with us in the Old Dominion. Anyway, I want to throw in my two cents for civility -- the purpose of the list is to explore the past and to enjoy the interplay of ideas and viewpoints from others who care about our history -- not to score points. I, for one, would hate to see people turned off from the list by intemperate remarks.

Be sweet (as momma used to say)

There has to be a reason because your silence is totally out of character. Either you can't bear the thought of agreeing with me on anything or you can't figure out how to or just can't bring yourself to criticize one of the groups of people you normally so vigorously defend. I imagine it would be difficult to criticize either of two groups of people who, until now, seemingly could do no wrong. But people are people,
ma'am, no matter their ethnicity, and no one deserves special treatment because of their color.
