Daphne S. Gentry, who worked at the Library of Virginia from 1964 until she retired in 1999, died of liver failure in a Richmond health care facility last night. She began her career at the library as an archivist after completing her master's degree in history. She later worked on the Virginia Colonial Records Project and was an assistant editor of the Dictionary of Virginia Biography at the time of her retirement. She was a founder of Va-Roots, the first Internet discussion group for Virginia genealogy, author of the Va-Notes research memoranda that are found on the Library of Virginia's Web site, and for several years editor of the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy. Her funeral will take place at noon on Saturday, 10 February, at Bliley's Funeral Home at 8510 Staples Mill Road in Richmond. Visitation at the same place from 6:00 to 8:00 o'clock on Friday evening.
