Look for anything by John Shelton Reed, a UNC sociologist, on the whole southern ethnicity question. If you have a good public library, they should have his work. And for fun read his "My Tears Spoiled My Aim." Looked at that way, it explains an awful lot about the region and its history. I wish I'd saved the article, I can't find any mention of this study now. Have any of you heard of it?
