While "Shenandoah" is fine as a song and tune, I cannot support it as Virginia's official state song. We need a state song that talks directly about Virginia. If "Shenandoah" becomes the official state song this year, then no one will want to go through the hassle of attempting to get another song, words and/or tune, passed by the G.A. at a later date. Why should Virginia have a state song that does not even mention the state's name or attributes? That is a worse choice than having a state song which some folks object to hearing because it is not politically correct in their opinion. I will stick with "Carry Me Back to Old Virginia."
