Burkesville is directly south of the Sailor's Creek Battlefield which is at the western edge of Amelia County. The battle was fought on April 6th, 1865 where Lee lost over 7,000 men captured including 8 generals of which one was his eldest son G. W. Custis Lee. Also on that date there was fighting at High Bridge and Rice's Depot which are all in the same Amelia/Nottoway Counties area. One bit of caution is to get the right Burke's Farm as elements of various old VA families tended to live close to their relations and sometimes you can get some wierd duplication of names/locations. In addition to Jeff's resources I also would suggest contacting both the Amelia and Nottoway Counties' historical societies as they are usually manned by long time residents, local historians/authors who might have some additional info that doesn't get into the history books.
