1. You should be able to buy an external CD burner. Have the
specifications of your laptop with you - or tjust ake the laptop itself.

2.  I'm using an Epson Perfection 4180 Photo scanner that can scan
very high dots per inch (dpi).  It  retails for about $180.
(Of course it scans other things, too.)  I haven't submitted to a
publisher from it yet but it meet sor surpasses all the requirements
of our university publication folks.

P.S. Ask the publisher about the dpi the company wants because that's
the touch point on graphic reproduction and you want to scan with the
detail they need.
