Anita, and Va-histers.
My website, "The Geography of Slavery in Virginia" contains runaway ads
for slaves and servants in 18th-century Virginia. To date, we have ads
from 1736 to 1797 with more on the way. The URL is
http://www.vcdh.virginia.edu/gos. We have tried to be as comprehensive as
we can, with ads from as many Virginia papers as we could track down.
This is a project of the Virginia Center for Digital History, supported
by an NEH grant.
Dan Meaders who published the volume of ads from 1801-1820 that Henry
mentioned also has a volume of runaway servant ads from Philadelphia
newspapers, 18th-early 19th century, I believe.
