Margaret Parker, wife of merchant James Parker, wrote to her husband
from Norfolk in 1770 saying "this is the 5th of November and [our son]
has been employed all day making bonfires."

Subject: Guy Fawkes Day in Virginia

In researching Guy Fawkes day, I have come across only one instance of
its
celebration in Virginia, and that from a group of New England sailors.
[the
Diary of Nicholas Cresswell] Has anyone come across another instance of
this?
