The cannon ball referred to is undoubtedly the one in the wall of St.
Paul's church in downtown Norfolk.

The British shelled Norfolk on January 1, 1776. For many years thereafter
there was a cannon ball in the wall of the church, but it became
dislodged.. In 1840 a cannonball was unearthed several feet below ground
beneath the indentation in the wall where the ball had been. The ball was
cemented into the wall and may be seen today.
