Perhaps you could assign relevant sections of the previously mentioned book
by Dan Crofts. I think it has at least one chapter just on Virginia events.

Subject: Is there an article/chapter length study of the Virginia secession
movement?

Query--I am looking for a good brief and readable account/analysis that I
can assign to undergraduates.

I know the article literature is scant, because I've done the usual
bibliographic searches. Unless it is under an odd title, I don't think it
exists.

Suggestions?

Best,
Kevin
