Everyone, Join author Dean Burgess for a discussion of his new book, An Unclean Act, at the Library of Virginia, tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 July 2002, at noon. Bring your lunch, too. Soft drinks will be available, and there is free parking in the Library's underground parking deck for this event. Dean Burgess, the retired director of the Portsmouth Public Library, has been for many years a leading advocate of libraries and librarianship in Virginia. His novel, An Unclean Act, is a tale of love and faith in Puritan times. It concerns the first divorce in the Plymouth colony, and he draws his story from the actual life of his ancestor, Thomas Burge. Publishers Weekly said that "this novel will help shake the dust from Puritan history books," and Kirkus Reviews called it a "spicy tale" that is "robustly and eloquently imagined." It promises to be an interesting discussion of family history and historical fiction. A book signing will follow the talk.
