In 1782 an entourage of Halfakers suddenly appeared in Washington Co., VA several married and several married later there. At the time Huffakers had lived there since 1768. The two families lived in the same neighborhood, as evidenced by the County Marriage Records. The family patriarchs may have been brothers. The rather sudden appearance of an entire Halfaker family that year seems suspicious, as if they had been Loyalist and had run to safety to a family member in the wilderness of western VA.

Are their references, sources for locating Loyalists of VA. The spelling of the name could have been, Halfacre, Hoffacker, Hoffecker, and Hubacher.
