I'm sure this will sound like a stupid question to many
of you, but it is not clear in my mind.  Just what is
a "tithable" when it's mentioned in the historical
context in early Virginia?  I know that the Baptist idea
of a tithe is 10% of gross earnings returned to the
church, but that definition does not seem to quite fit
in with colonial Virginia.
