I think the following will be of interest to members of the list: The Thirteen Month Crop: A Photographic and Oral History Documentary by Jesse Andrews, photographer, will be exhibited at the Pittsylvania County Public Library in Chatham. The exhibit will feature photographs of the Terry Moore family and their tobacco farm, combined with explanatory text panels from oral history interviews. The theme of the exhibit is the changing landscape of tobacco farming and what that means for the Moore family, and, by extension, for the region as a whole. The exhibit will open on the evening of October 5, 2001, at 7:30 p.m. with a panel discussion. Featured will be Dr. Charles Thompson, humanities scholar and oral history interviewer; Tom Rankin of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University; Kinney Rorrer, local historian; Roddy Moore, director of the Blue Ridge Institute at Ferrum College; and Dr. Wayne Purcell, an agricultural economist at Virginia Tech. Terry Moore, the tobacco farmer featured in the documentary, and Mr. Andrews will also be involved in the discussion. The exhibit is supported by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, Pittsylvania County Public Library, and by a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. The Pittsylvania County Public Library is located at 24 Military Drive (one block off Main Street) in Chatham, Virginia. The exhibit will be open during normal library hours (Monday through Thursday from 9 am until 8 pm; Friday from 9 until 5; and Saturday from 10 until noon) until November 16.
