Dear List Members: I am working on revising my dissertation on the business activities of the Tayloe family of Virginia. One improvement I am trying to make is to paint a more personal and human picture of the family. I have genealogical information and some personal letters, but the vast majority of their family papers are account books and most of the letters that exist involve John Tayloe III (1771-1828) and not the earlier two generations that I'm also working on. I am now beginning to look in other families' papers who might have corresponded with the Tayloes to try to find either letters written by those other families to the Tayloes or letters that the Tayloes sent to them; I am finding some letters using this strategy, but as you can imagine it is hit or miss. This is where I hope you might be able to help. If in your own research you have come across letters in other Virginia or Maryland families' papers to or from John Tayloe I (1687-1747), John Tayloe II (1721-1779) or John Tayloe III (1771-1828) or their wives (Elizabeth Gwynn Lyde Tayloe (I), Rebecca Tayloe (II), or Anne Ogle Tayloe (III)), I would very much appreciate knowing about them if you are willing to share. Thanks in advance for your consideration and assistance.
