Well, rather than "vituperative" could we say "passionate"?   Actually,
don't we expect historians to be passionate about their pursuit of
historical accuracy and truth?  Look beyond our very, very short term U.S.
history about which we are arguing to the several thousand years older
archeological investigations of the Holy Land, (as outlined in the "Biblical
Archeological Review" magazine), or the findings of the Leakeys in Africa to
find plenty of zealousness on every unsure historical/archeological
unsettled issue.  That is the very essence of the pursuit of historical
truth, isn't it?
