Cumberland Farms was and is located on a meander loop of
the Pamunkey River due north of the Court House. It has
occupation dating from at least Middle Archaic through the
present, including a very large Woodland component. It was
almost the State Capital, was chartered as a town, had a
massive number of USA troops camped over it during the
Peninsula Campaign, has a large plantation house on a
terrace overlooking the loop, and is now partially used as a
hospital.

The Department of Historic Resources sponsored some form of
investigation of the Town of Cumberland in the late 1970's
but nothing was apparently written up as I can find no
reference in their database.

So what's your interest?
