Subscribers to VA-ROOTS will be interested in the release of Wesley E. Pippenger's latest book Essex County, Virginia Marriage Bonds, 1804-1850, Annotated (2015), xii+235 pp., illustrations, paper, perfect-bound, $35.00 postpaid.

This is a compilation of data found in the earliest marriage bonds and consents for Essex County for the period 1804 through 1850. (Earlier public marriage records for Essex County do not survive.) Data inserted by the compiler appears first, followed by a transcript of the compiled data from one or several original records on microfilm at the Library of Virginia. Inserted data may be from earlier marriage records (for the parents of the bride or groom), family Bible records, cemetery records, military records, and other publications.

The compilation contains over 900 footnotes, an index of over 9,000 entries, and 10 marriage records for 1850 not previously published. The introduction contains additional information, including a description of what the law required for marriage in Virginia during this time.

Please see Mr. Pippenger's website for further information: http://wesleypippenger.com.
