When confronted by a difficult problem, you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger have handled this?" - Unknown
Well.......I LIED!
I told you that the H in the S J Hatcher entry was unique and found nowhere else, including Washington's bible. WRONG!
I just uploaded Wash's bible and if you look at the first bible page at http://hatcherfamilyassn.com/getperson.php?personID=I37705&tree=WmTheIm and check out the first witness - wah-lah! Same H!
But, while I see the H J, I have no idea what the last name is beyond starting with E. Is there anyone who can make suggestions as to what this name might be? I definitely want to track this guy down.
And it's also time to give a BIG THANK YOU to so many of you who, unbeknownst to you, made simple suggestions that had previously escaped my feeble brain. YES! I can timeline many of these entries and I no longer believe John F owned the bible and made the entries on page 1 - I KNOW he made them. He never entered his last born kids because he had moved to LA before 1860. And it's obvious he turned that bible over to another family member
I still have no clue why the very odd entry uses the words - the writer - and I may never know. But I do believe this was also an entry by a 3rd party..
It's also registering with me that I have 2 styles of entries - those that record "Jane" MY WIFE and those that record "Jane" HIS WIFE. It's becoming clearer that there were 3rd party people making several of these entries.
So I now have a new path to pursue, a witness to find and 3 more pages to decipher. Should keep me out of trouble for a while :-)
