Have you checked out J[ohn] B. and S[arah] C. Evans found on the census in Staunton in Augusta County 1860 - 1880?  They had a bunch of kids including a son named Robert (age 2 in 1870) and a daughter Nettie (age 3 in 1870).  Could be that the daughter was named for her mother's nickname.  My mother's name is Elise, my father called her Lisa until my younger sister Lisa was born.
