Va-Roots is converting to a moderated list, similar in operation to many
other discussion lists with which most subscribers are probably
familiar. Messages to the list automatically go to the list moderator,
who for the time being remains me, and then to the subscribers. New
subscribers will receive the following welcome message with "Some
Va-Roots Etiquette."
VA-ROOTS, founded in July 1995, is an electronic forum that the Library
of Virginia sponsors for discussion of research and writing about
Virginia family history to enable students and researchers to learn more
about the work of other researchers, inquire about the location of
sources, debate issues, raise questions, and learn about current events
in the field (conferences, research grants, position announcements,
etc.). VA-ROOTS welcomes methodological and theoretical discussions, and
applauds comparative perspectives.
Some Va-Roots Etiquette:
Please treat other subscribers and their work and opinions politely and
with respect.
Please sign your name to all messages.
Please include in replies to messages only so much of a previous message
as is necessary.
Please do not reply to a daily digest.
Please remember that the Reply key sends messages to all subscribers,
not merely to the last person who posted a message.
Please refrain from allusions to current political and social
controversies, which may detract from serious discussions of the past.
Please do not submit attachments because the server will reject them.
