Form record receivedThank you for responding to my message, Carye.
I personally object to taking any West Virginia records out of West Virginia. I feel the people of this great state would be better served by placing these invaluable documents with either West Virginia University, the State of West Virginia or some other organization that would oversee the restoration and preservation of our very history! Placing these historic documents in or under Iron Mountain is not the answer!
Have every one of these papers been microfilmed? What is the book format that you refer to?
You said your office "has recently launched an online database which hopefully will make it more convenient for researchers to gain access to our information". What is the address for that website/webpage?
I appreciate your attention to this important matter!
Margaret

Margaret:
It is good to hear from you. Thank you for your interest in our project to relocate some of Monongalia County's original permanent records to Iron Mountain.
The records in question are the original documents we have in our custody. These documents have long been put into book format which is the current method of retrieval. The books containing these documents will continue to be available to the public in our record room. Our office has recently launched an online database of our records which hopefully will make it more convenient for researchers to gain access to our information.
These original paper documents are in very bad shape and are in desperate need of attention. A facility such as Iron Mountain will allow our County to preserve and protect these documents from further deterioration.
I believe there has been allot of misinformation or misunderstanding spread among the genealogists and researchers who use our records about the scope of our project. We are taking a very progressive step in protecting our valuable resource of records and making sure that all of us have access to the information for years to come.
I certainly welcome your comments and suggestions.
Thank you again for expressing your concerns and for your interest in this project.
Sincerely,
Carye L. Blaney

Carye,
The movement underway in Monongalia County to transfer valuable and historic documents to a storage facility in Pennsylvania is unconscionable!!!
Please stood this travesty before it\'s too late!!!
I appeal to you personally to do what ever you can do, Carye! Please advise if there any avenues open to us that we may not be aware of!
