The VA Historical Soc. sent me some leads and was able to find out that...

R.L. Barnes is Robert Leonard Barnes, born Sept 4, 1850 probably in Tuckahoe,
Henrico Co., VA and died Oct 22, 1936 in Farmville, VA.

He was the founder and head of R.L. Branes Safe & Lock Co. from 1887-1906
then his sons took it over. The factory at Triggs burned in 1912 and rebuilt in
1914 reorganized. Looks like the company under the original name ended in
1942.

R.L. Barnes was married to Alice Gertrude Hardy (1859-1937)

They are buried at Hollywood cemetery - Section D, Lot 185.

Eric
