Beverly:
Nettie is a nickname for Antoinette. It is not illogical for
Henrietta, given the common practice of putting an N in front of a
nickname beginning with a vowel. In the 1800s many nicknames such as
Nancy, Sally, Effie, etc., had become names in their own right. If
her parents were not members of a church which practiced infant
baptism, with the clergy maintaining rigid control of the naming
process, Nettie may be her only given name.
I enjoyed the NGS conference in Richmond very much. Seeing Jamestown
was great!
