Right on, Henry. It seems that most of the newbies - new since computers, that is - do little or no research in courthouses or even in libraries. Too bad, since it is written that less than 30% of the sources we need are available on the net (and much of what little is there contains errors). Little wonder so many folks complain of "dead ends". Paul

"She has done many trips for me to various courthouses in
VA, Patrick,
Henry and Pittsylvania Co. She had said, that in Patrick
and Henry,
the employees were unaware of certain records, and they do
exist. How
could we get out hands on those records?"
I have run into this problem also. Courthouse employees
are not historians and they often have no knowledge of the
very old records. Before going to a courthouse it might be
a good idea to contact the local genealogical or historical
society and locate someone who is knowledgeable about local
records.
