I was recently sent information from Terry Lowry's VA Regimental History book
on the 22nd VA Infantry. The following was written re: Dudly Milam:
Pvt./Corp. Co. G. Enlisted 7/3/61 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV. Under
arrest on 4/30/64 roll. AWOL from Co. B, Ward's Battn. C.S. prisoners at
Lynchburg, Va. July 1864. Deserted from guard at Lynchburg, Va. on 10/31/64
roll.
What does "C. S." mean? The book, while listing the definitions of many
abbreviations, does not cover this one.
Thank you in advance for any information.
Sincerely,
Mike Peters
