Might you be related to the Family of the Father of our Country, George
Washington? As most of us likely remember from our history lessons,
George Washington did not father any children. He raised two
step-children. However George was part of a large Washington family clan
in early Virginia. Following is some information about George's
siblings, Uncles and Cousins from Stafford County, VA from around 1743,
when young George lost his Father at age 11. The Washington clan was
generally very prosperous. The immigrant ancestor, John Washington
(George's Great Grandfather), had come to VA in about 1657, settled in
Westmoreland County, VA, married well to Ann Pope. Other branches
remained in Westmoreland County, but the children of John's eldest son
Lawrence, b: abt 1659 seem to have moved to Stafford County sometime in
the 1730's. Ann Pope Washington died and John married two more times (it
is said to sisters) and fathered other children.

President George's Washington's Father was Augustine Washington (said to be
a blond giant of a man, fabulously strong but gentle). George was born
in 1732. His mother's maiden name was Mary Ball (daughter of Joseph Ball
and Mary Johnson). He had two older half brothers, Lawerence and Augustine
Jr (both dieing childless)., one older half sister Jane (also died young
without issues), and one younger sister and three younger brothers (Betty,
Samuel, John Augustine, and Charles).

George's Grandfather was Lawerence Washington, a lawyer. He married
Mildred Warner. Lawerence was the eldest son of immigrant from England
John Washington who came to VA about 1657. Grandfather Lawrence died in
1698 at age 39. Besides George's Father Augustine, Lawrence had two
other sons, John and Townshend Washington. Both of them also moved to
Stafford County and left wills there.

If I have the connections right, George Washington's Uncles John and
Townshend Washington left the following descendants as named in their
Stafford County, VA wills:

George's Father Augustine Washington died in Stafford County, VA. April
12, 1743. George was 11.

John Washington, died Stafford County VA. June 1742.
Only son: Laurence
Daughters: Mildred, Anne, Mary, Francis, Elizabeth, and Catherine

Townshend Washinton, died Stafford County, VA. May 1744
Son: Robert Washington, left estate at Matthias Point
Sons: Thomas, Townsend, John, and Lawrence
No daughter are named or referred to. Assumption is he had only sons.

The original immigrant John Washington was from Essex in England where it
appears his Father, Reverend Lawrence Washington, was prosperous until
falling upon hard times during the English Civil War in the 1640's. John
appears to have sought his fortune first as a seaman and then by settling
in Westmoreland County, VA.
