Not if the widow/er was left with small children to take care of. It
was imperative to have both householders present to share the
workload.
Samuel WOODRUFF married Nancy PILGRIM in Spartanburg Co, SC, in 1800;
his deceased wife, Jennet WOODRUFF (a cousin) had died 14 Sep 1800
leaving 5 minor children, so the interval between wives could not have
exceeded 3-1/2 months. There are undoubtedly many other such cases.
