Can anyone give me the first name of (?) Smith who married Winifred T. (I
believe Tarpley) McCarty in Richmond County? They had two children; Charles
McCarty Smith who d.s.p.and Frances Ann Smith. Frances Ann Smith married
Robert W. McCarty (his second wife) in Richmond County on 26 Sept 1822.
They were first cousins and had no children but Robert had two children by
his first wife. The first wife of Robert W. McCarty was Winifred Travers
(McCarty) Smith who was first married to an Issac Smith (no apparent relation
to (?) Smith. This Issac Smith DID leave a will and there were no children by
this marriage. It so happens that Winifred T. (McCarty) Smith was ALSO a
first cousin of Robert W. McCarty. He must have gotten his jollies by
marrying cousins!
Wnifred T. McCarty was born 4 Sept 1775 and was daughter of Major Charles
McCarty and Winifred Tarpley who lived in Richmond 'County all of their
lives.
I have no problem documenting all of the above with marriage bonds,
deeds. wills and chancery suits. However, I cannot find a will or definite
deed for (?) Smith in wkhich there is a reference to a Winifred.
Thanka, William M. McCarty <[log in to unmask]>
