Horse Racing was very popular in a lot of areas, With a brother nicknamed Jockey, it sounds like these horses may have won some races.

I have no idea about the value of horses in 1860, but one of my ancestors was involved in selling them.

After returning to Missouri and marrying, he and an elder brother (known as Jockey), made trips to Texas where they rounded up wild horses, herded
them back to Missouri and sold them.
