Hi to the list.
Many thanx for the assistance regarding camera and courthouse tips...
Of course, use only pencils! But there are many that just don't understand this...
I research mostly Fluvanna and often find persons placing the large books on top of each other with the pages hanging over with no support on the bottom. When I suggest that they place it flat on the table, I am often met with resistance. As long as they get what they are after, it doesn't matter what happens later. Many pages come loose this way, the spines come apart, etc. This also happens when they are placed on a copy machine that is not made for copying these large books.
I wish the county clerks could impose a "demonstrate to me that you know how to use these archives correctly" before they are allowed to pick up an old fragile resource!
