Greetings All!Dr. Elaine Vinson, a great-niece of Dr. John Smallwood, who f= ounded an early 20th century school for Black youth at Claremont, VA, is wr= iting his biography for his niece, who is herself now 104 years old. I have= shared with Dr. Vinson information that I have about Dr. Smallwood. This i= s a request for all who have information about Dr. Smallwood or his school = to please contact me, and I will put you in touch with her.The school was c= alled The Temperance, Industrial and Collegiate Institute in 1906. After Dr= . Smallwood's death in 1912, the name was changed to Smallwood Memorial Ins= titute and later to Smallwood-Corey Industrial Institute. Greetings All,The following message was received from the Surry County, VA,= Circuit Court Clerk, Gail Clayton. The Clerk's Office has been moved into= temporary quarters during massive renovation of the old courthouse. The ne= w quarters are somewhat cramped. The Clerk has no control over this and mus= t do her job as best she can in difficult circumstances. That is the reason= for the message below.Eve S. Subject: Use of Cameras in Relocated Circuit CourtDear Ms. Gregory: =
Please advise all making inquiries of your agency that as of today, July 1= 2, 2007 cameras will no longer be allowed in this office to photograph reco= rds that are not on the scanner. Due to the small space and the means by wh= ich individuals are handling these documents, I feel that the books are mor= e likely to be damaged. From henceforth, we will provide individuals with a= form that may be submitted to the Library of Virginia to attempt to obtain= copies. Our scanning systems contains deeds dating from 1741 to present. =
