Thanks! Great to be able to read it online--and I can come back to it again and again.

Unfortunately, not much on the William Mason/John Mason family, though there is a reference to Daniel Mason, probably a brother to John. The reference links him to Allens and Mathenys (probably a half-brother), just as John is often linked in deeds, appraisals, etc. More evidence they're brothers.

It would be nice to find a key that led to how they're all related--but that's probably not going to happen. One can only try. DNA says these Stafford Masons belong to a far flung VA family (not related to either the Gunston Hall Masons or the George of Aquia line that went to Prince William and Loudoun), but absolutely no evidence of how they're all related. They got there early and some of the family stayed in the northern neck (Stafford, Culpeper, Fauquier) a long time, some still there--though it looks like other branches went off to southwest VA before the Revolution. A perplexing group...

> Glad you asked! Thanks to a very generous donation from the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution, the Stafford County volume has been conserved, scanned, and microfilmed. Images of the book (including the index) can be found at as part of the Library's "Lost Records Localities Digital Collection" by pasting this link into your web browser: vamem.com/scb
> The volume is also available on microfilm and a film copy can be ordered through the Library of Virginia's Interlibrary Loan Program (ILL). More information on that program can be found at: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/ill.asp

> What is the status of the court order book for Stafford, 1749-1755, uncovered in NJ in 2011? Is conservation work still being done? Has it been microfilmed yet and is it available to those of us out here in the hinterlands?
>
> This book is a rare find given the dearth of records left for Stafford--and I know there are many out here awaiting information about getting our hands on a copy!
