Assistant Library Director


The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has an opening for the Assistant Library Director.  This position serves as part of the management team of the DAR Library, and assists with development of plans and policies, oversees the operation of the reference desk, supervises reference staff, and ensures the smooth function of the department in cooperation with and in the absence of the Library Director. 

Primary responsibilities include overseeing the staffing and function of the reference/information desk, providing genealogical reference services and referrals to researchers; providing orientation to patrons; training library staff in use of the Library software; serving as the primary contact, troubleshooter and resource for the library's software system; supervising, scheduling, monitoring and evaluating staff; and participating in the selection of new books and other research materials. 

The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years library work experience and at least two years previous supervisory experience.  MLS required.  Knowledge of American History is preferred.  Candidates must have background or experience in genealogical studies and/or research.  Position requires excellent oral/written communication and organization skills, and detail orientation. Solid proficiency in library-specific software and Microsoft Office is required.
