There's a great book which was published a year or so ago called "Dressing
for the Photographer." I'm sorry I can't give you the author because my
copy is in storage. She describes men, women and children's dress through
the centuries, I believe beginning with 1840. There are lots of pictures.
Great book. Maybe you can request it through interlibrary loan? I would
also think any middle-sized genealogical collection would include it, if
not, why not? It's the best of this type I've seen.
