This is the first I've been able to bring myself to post on our loss.

I'd saved the ones where I'd finally found [!!!] my extraordinarily
elusive maternal ancestor families for the very first time, as they moved
from Surry County on down to Southampton before they left Virginia
entirely; and lost those images in the last computer crash.

There was soooo much work put into that site (not in the least to make it
user-friendly for the computer-challenged like myself). And I can't tell
you how sad I felt on the Fourth of July when I read Scott's message that
the effort had been disbanded. I don't blame them for giving it up; I
recall gasping at the remarks that were posted here a long while back

by one dreadfully self-absorbed person on this list who thought it of
colossal importance to announce that "the lists weren't useful [to her]
because she needed each and every year from her particular county" and
proceeded to show us, or me anyway in an unsolicited attachment [that
took 15-20 minutes to download] in infinite detail how she traced the
every breath of her probable ancestors. About then, downloading, I could
make my own guesstimate as to her probable ancestry.

For the rest of us who were simply awed by the devotion & diligence of
the dear folks who would undertake such an incredibly time consuming
project for the benefit of ALL of us who trace our origins back to ANY
Virginia county - I have no words. Grieving here - I am... just bereft.

Besides angry. Very very angry. Is it just because I'm getting
crochety-er turning 60 next month or are those who would blow out
another's candle to puff their silly selves up now extending their
ministry to Genealogy Lists?
