Its a difference of perspective.  I have 4 soldiers, 2 from Northern Virginia and 2 from Southwestern Pa.

I have a copy of the History of the Eighty Fifth Pennsylvania (1915) and it says they signed on to Put Down the Rebellion.

On the other hand the newspaper clipping I have from Virginia says to 'oppose the invasion from the north
