For anyone who is interested in divorce, separation, and women's
property rights during the colonial period, I recommend Women and the
Law of Property in Early America by Marylynn Salmon. She devotes an
entire chapter (chapter 4, page 58 in my softcover edition) to
divorce and separation. She covers not only representative southern
states, but also some representative New England states. It is an
enlightening read.
