RELIC PROGRAMS
Here are our latest offerings. Funding for RELIC programs is provided
by the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries. Sign language
interpretation is available for Prince William Public Library programs
if requested at least three weeks in advance. To be notified of

GENEALOGY 101
Presented by RELIC's Beverly Veness
Family history buffs have an opportunity to learn about methods,
strategies and resources for tracing their roots at a free session
sponsored by The Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center (RELIC). RELIC is a
special collection for genealogy and local history located at the Bull
Run Regional Library in Manassas. The hour-long program, conducted by
Beverly Veness of the RELIC staff, is scheduled for Thursday, February
11, 2010, at 11 a.m.
This program, "Genealogy 101," will highlight the numerous free
genealogical resources available at RELIC and will explore basic
techniques for tracking ancestors.

AFRICAN AMERICAN GENEALOGY:
TRACKING ANCESTORS BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR
Presented by RELIC's Don Wilson
Tracing African American family history prior to 1865 can be difficult.
There are special challenges to finding documentation during the age of
slavery. Don Wilson, head of the RELIC staff, will identify sources
that can be used to trace lives and relationships and demonstrate the
process through a case study approach. The program is scheduled for
Tuesday, February 23, 2010, beginning at 7 p.m., at Bull Run Regional
Library.

FREE GENEALOGY SOFTWARE
TO ORGANIZE YOUR RESEARCH
Presented by the RELIC Staff
Data management software is an essential labor-saving tool
for collecting and sorting the many names, relationships, and vital
statistics that can be part of anyone's family history research project.
RELIC will offer demonstrations of some of the free and open source
software programs available to help organize your genealogical research.
Software to be highlighted in this session include Gramps and Legacy
Family Tree.
This demonstration will be conducted by RELIC staff and volunteers at
the library's community room on Thursday, March 11, at 11 a.m. and will
be repeated on Tuesday, March 23, at 7 p.m.

BULL RUN LIBRARY TO SPONSOR WRITERS' FAIR
The Bull Run Regional Library will be sponsoring a Writers' Fair on
Saturday, March 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. Representatives from local authors'
groups will be available to talk to patrons who are interested in all
types of writing, from memoirs to fiction to genealogy.
Adults who enjoy writing and wish to meet other authors may register for
