I am looking for the lineage of a Mary Akers (1784 - 1876) who married
Christopher Vandevender. They began in Augusta Co. and I have Simon Akers
as her father and William as her grandfather. There is a William Akers in New
Jersey about 1730 who patented acres in Nelson Co., VA in 1751 and later
moved to Campbell Co., VA. Kegley's Virginia Frontier mentions a Simon Akers
but the dates do not jive to be the father of Mary Akers.
Mary and Christopher Vandevender married in 1799 in Greenbrier, VA and by
1840 were living in Kemper Co., MS.
They would be my 4 greatgrandparents. Their daughter married Dugald
McArthur on April 26, 1826 in Washington Co., ALA.
Does anyone have any information on the Akers/Vandevender line in Augusta
Co., VA?
