The next program in the Virginia Heritage Resource Center's Mining the
Treasure House lecture series will take place at noon on Tuesday, 19
July 2005, in the conference rooms adjacent to the lobby in the Library
of Virginia at 800 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond. Research
archivist Patricia Ferguson Watkinson will discuss the Library's rich
collection of legislative petitions in a talk entitled, "The Unfortunate
Mary Webley and Her Miserable Children: Legislative Petitions at the
Library of Virginia." Watkinson will discuss the petitions' background,
form and usage, and present stories from various petitions that
illustrate their utility as a window for studying Virginia history. This
talk is given in conjunction with the exhibition, "What Is An Archive?"
which is currently on display in the lobby of the Library.

There is free underground parking for Library patrons, but please note
that space is limited. For more information on this and other progams
and services of the Library of Virginia please visit the Library's web
site at http://lva.lib.va.us <http://lva.lib.va.us/> or call at
804-692-3592.
