Seek assistance connecting cabinetmaker Wesley Avery (1813-1886), of
Alexandria, Va., to Avery ancestors. Suspect he was a son of John Avery
(d. 1828) and wife Ann (d. 1830) of Alexandria, Va., and need help in
placing his siblings. I know nothing further of John and Ann.

Suspect that Wesley had a brother James Avery who m. 1837 in Washington DC
to Elizabeth Pearson, and which James was guardian of a Julia Ann Avery and
a John [William] Elliott, who were married in 1834 by bond in Alexandria,
Va. Appears James was the eldest son of the late John and Ann, thus his
role as guardian of newlyweds John Elliott and wife Julia Ann. Suspect
Julia Ann was also daughter of John and Ann Avery. Need Ann Avery's maiden
name and ancestry.

Wesley Avery, cabinetmaker, was apprenticed in 1829 to the Koons furniture
trade, and [his brother-in-law] John Elliott was a chairmaker in
Alexandria. Both Wesley Avery and John Elliott are found on the 1850
Alexandria, Va. census, with furniture-related occupations. By the 1860
census, both Wesley and John had different occupations (gardener and
collector), probably because Koons died in 1857 and his furniture business
was disbanded. It has been noted that players in the early furniture trade
of Alexandria were very parochial. Also seek additional information on the
Elliott family of Alexandria, Va.
