Do you ever video any of the wonderful programs that you offer? Living in Texas is a bit out of my morning commute to get to Virginia.

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] Public Program: Genealogy and Lineage Societies

Genealogy and Lineage Societies

Tuesday, December 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Staunton Public Library

Is membership in a lineage society one of your genealogical research goals? Professional genealogist Janie Sherman will describe the many types of societies and typical requirements of their application process, including obtaining proper documentation and procedures.

There are many lineage societies, and Janie Sherman is a member of more than 40. Lineage societies can be War Societies (Sons of the American Revolution, United States Daughters of 1812, Daughters of Union Veterans); Colonial Societies (Colonial Dames of 17th Century, Southern Dames of America, Antebellum Planters); Religious Societies (Descendants of Early Quakers, Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims, Huguenot Society); Occupational Societies (Bench and Bar, Flagon and Trencher); First Family/Settler Societies (First Settlers of the Shenandoah Valley, First Families of Maryland; Jamestowne Society); Military Societies (Descendants of the Knights of the Bath, Military Order of the Crusades); Royal Lineage Societies (Charlemagne, Merovingian Dynasty, St. Margaret of Scotland); and more.

Pre-registration is suggested. Please call 540.332.3902 or email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Programs at the Staunton Public Library, whether sponsored by the Library or by community groups, are open to all and offered at no charge. The Library welcomes people with disabilities. Please alert us in advance if there is a need for accommodation.
