 Read about the Virginia Newspaper Project's research into notices placed
in newspapers by free African Americans requesting the return of their lost
free papers. Project volunteer, Kyle Rogers, puzzled through hundreds of
leads to identify a significant number of notices placed in antebellum and
Civil War era newspapers.
