Whole orchards have been planted with sprouts of the mother trees, among the people to whom the art of grafting was an unheard of mystery.” Over the course of the nineteenth century, the Milam Apple became wildly popular in parts of our Mid-West and spread from coast to coast. In 1888 and 1893, I found it for sale in the Rancho Chico Nursery’s catalogs from just north of Sacramento, CA.
