Sarah exhorts us to politeness in her most recent email to the list:

Leaving aside the use of all caps to denigrate all of us on the list, who have varying levels of internet savvy and competence,  I hope we will not discourage our searchers for truth.  Who knows, your spelling and syntax may not be up to par and you may hit the delete, reply to all, or some other key before you intended and cause untold problems for others who are serious, dedicated scholars. I suggest that we go a little easy on our venting.
As Sarah correctly points out: "We need to
be as proper and polite in this mode of expression as we do in normal
conversation."
