Researchers to Discuss Essex County Cemetery Project

Wesley E. Pippenger and Suzanne P. Derieux will address the
November meeting of the Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and
Historical Society of Virginia (MPAAGHS) on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 11:00
a.m. at the Essex County Public Library, 117 North Church Lane (Rt. 17),
Tappahannock, Virginia. Mr. Pippenger and Ms. Derieux will describe the details
of their Essex County cemetery project. In 2009, they began inventorying all
public and private cemeteries in the county. Their work on church cemeteries
is nearing completion whereas the more daunting task of locating private
burial places will take longer. Plans call for publishing the cemetery data
that is being collected. The publication will provide an invaluable resource
to genealogists and family historians.

Mr. Pippenger is past president of the Virginia Genealogical
Society. He is author of over 75 publications that deal with abstracting and
indexing court records, newspaper notices, and many types of records useful to
genealogical researchers.

The public is invited to attend the meeting. For further information
about the meeting or about MPAAGHS, call 804-758-5163, or visit
