Steve and Bunny,

The more important measure for genealogists, IMO, is whether they have done
well for their family and the field itself. If certification--i.e,, those
"initials after a name" that you inquired about--is seen as "reaching some
special status," then certification amounts to nothing but an ego trip. I
would hope that genealogical certification would be seen by the public as a
statement that genealogy is a legitimate field of study and practice, with
standards that professionals believe in and adhere to.

(Sunday morning is just about over, so I'll keep this sermon short :).
