I am not well educated in civil war terminology nor do I understand the make
up of the smaller units; however, I do recognize that "Regiment" seems to be
used for histories.

The digitized cards for confederate soldiers, sailors in the LOV database
often do not state the full name of the unit...so, what "assumptions" may be
made when one encounters something like "31st"

In doing www searches, I find mention of 31st Regiment and 31st Militia.  Are
they they same...If not, how does one determine?
