Madaline,
According to "Generals in Gray, Lives of the Confederate Commanders", Ezra
J. Warner, 1959, Louisiana State University Press:
"Arnold Elzey (Jones) was born at 'Elmwood,' Somerset County, Maryland,
on December 18, 1816. He was graduated from West Point in 1837 at that time
dropping his patronymic for his more distinctive middle name ... " source

I have seen references to Gen. Arnold Elzey (Jones) taking the name of this
paternal grandmother rather than serve under the name of Gen. Jones. I have
NOT seen anything on who his grandmother was or who were her parents.
Would appreciate any information.
M. Preston
